Prisons in Germany

Nick, stir, the slammer, custardy: there are many terms for prison in colloquial language. Just as many speculations and prejudices surround the topic of detention facilities, supported by various movies and series. But how does reality look like in German prisons ("Justizvollzugsanstalt", short "JVA")? What are the true facts? And how do prisoners feel about their imprisonment? "Enclosed" tries to answer these questions. Visitors are introduced to an objective information level, which provides a neutral and governmental perspective on the topic and also includes original documents from German JVAs. Through keys visitors have access to boxes representing cells. From the outside seemingly grey and uniform, every door opens to an individual topic and experience from imprisoned people.
